AI models are a new technology that can be used across a wide range of platforms to perform many tasks.
Chat GPT is an AI model that has taken the internet by storm in the past few months. Chat GPT is a text based platform, accessed as a web application via a web browser, and offers the ability to generate conversational responses to nearly any prompt it is given. This gives its users access to complex information, customised and presented simply and understandably. This is strengthened further in version 4, which was released within the last week, with an ability to understand nuances in language.
AI models such as Chat GPT can be highly advantageous to businesses and individuals, however, they do not come without risk.
One of the largest risks is the integrity of work produced, especially in Academia. The use of these tools enables individuals to produce text near instantly on any topic. Using work produced by an AI is still classed as Plagiarism, however, current plagiarism detectors are still catching up and often struggle to recognise AI generated text.
Another concern is that AI models is misuse. The power of AI can create deep fake videos or fake news that look convincing to manipulate public opinion. It can also be used for other forms of Cyber Crime such as creating bots or customised phishing campaigns.
Privacy is also another concern with the AI models. This is because they require huge amounts of data to function properly. If this data contains personal or sensitive information there is the potential it can be used for malicious activity. As with all other online activity, there is the potential that it could be used for surveillance and monitoring.
However, many people’s main concern is the impact of AI and automation technologies on the workforce. These technologies are becoming increasingly powerful and able to complete tasks that are currently completed by humans. The concern is both about job availability and a potential further widening of the income gap between those who have skills and those who don’t.
However, these tools can be greatly useful for businesses and individuals. They provide a quick, simple platform to gather information in a digestible format. They can also reduce time spent drafting correspondence, such as emails and provide feedback and frameworks for written work.
