Over four million UK customers banking details and personal information are suspected to have been stolen
The ISP (internet security provider) TalkTalk has been affected by a large cyber-attack, potentially all customer information has been stolen. The attack occured on Wednesday 21st?October with a DDoS (distributed denial of service attack) on the TalkTalk website which shut it down, attackers then went on to take customer account details.
There is a chance that some of the stolen customer information was not encrypted, meaning that it the hackers now have this information and can potentially read it. TalkTalk have advised that some or all of the following data may have been stolen:
????????? Names and addresses
????????? Dates of Birth
????????? Email addresses
????????? Telephone numbers
????????? TalkTalk account information
????????? Card information and Bank details
We urge all TalkTalk customers to change their account password and to request a new debit/credit card from their bank. Cyber criminals could have your information, do not respond to anyone contacting you, if they say they are from TalkTalk it doesn?t mean they are, if you need information or have any questions you can phone TalkTalk directly.
Here is a statement from the TalkTalk website. ?Please be aware that genuine TalkTalk staff may be contacting clients asking them to change their account details but they will never ask you to give your bank details over the phone or ask you to download any software onto your machine. Best advice is to politely decline to take the call and advise that you will ring them back. Ring back using contact information from TalkTalk (available on their website) and NOT a number given to you by the person who may have called, confirm any details directly with a TalkTalk representative yourself.
Cyber criminals who have access to your information may not act on this straight away. They know customers are on high alert after the breach. If you are a TalkTalk customer you will need to be consistently vigilant.
