FireEye, one of the world’s leading companies in cybersecurity, has recently been hit with a highly sophisticated cyber attack that FireEye believes is state-sponsored.
FireEye stated “The attacker primarily sought information related to certain government customers,” and “The attackers tailored their world-class capabilities specifically to target and attack FireEye.”

Like many cyber-security firms, FireEye has a range of offensive tools that they use on companies and governments that hire them to carry out mock cyberattacks to help said organization improve their defenses and better understand where they are vulnerable.

FireEye says its hacking armory has been raided meaning that the attackers now have a potent collection of tools and techniques to draw upon.
This has also happened before with the ‘Shadow Broker’ leaks in which hackers stole and shared cyberweapons developed by the US National Security Agency. This resulted in successful and devastating attacks on businesses and civilians all over the world.

We always say ‘it’s not a matter of if it’s a matter of when’ and with FireEye getting attacked it shows that attackers are learning more sophisticated techniques and they now have tools from one of the leading cybersecurity firms in the world. But still, having any form of protection is better than having none and can minimize the damage done if used correctly, get in contact with Cyber Wise today to learn how we can help you and your business.
